one day

A few months ago, I flew up to DC to surprise my friend Alison on her birthday.  It was one of the few times I didn't have a book to read, so in the airport I stopped in the bookstore and was just looking for something light and breezy that I could enjoy reading on the plane.  As you can probably tell by the sidebar, I'm a huge fan of chick-lit.  It's reading's equivalent of a rom-com, which I also love.  I don't care that you can usually tell what's going to happen before you even crack the book open--they're usually just so much fun to read, and I don't have to think too hard.  (Wow, that sounds bad!)

{me and Alison in DC on her birthday!}

Anywhoo, I was in the little convenience shop about to pick a random book that I wasn't really that excited about, when I noticed a book that had Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess (who I love) on the cover.  I picked it up; it's called "One Day," and once I read the back, I KNEW I had to read it.

"better by far to simply try and be good and courageous and bold and to make a difference, not change the world exactly, but the bit around you. cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully, and well, experience new things. love and be loved, if you ever get the chance." -david nicholls (from the book, "one day")

Here's the premise:  A guy (Dex) and a girl (Emma) meet the day they graduate from University (July 15).  The first chapter is about that day.  Every chapter after that is about July 15 of the next year.  Throughout the book, you get to read about that one day and how their relationship is changing and how the rest of their lives--location, career, family, friends--is changing as well and how all those factors affect them and their relationship.

It was such a unique format and written beautifully.  I was totally fascinated by it and couldn't put it down practically the whole weekend!  So you can imagine my delight when I found out that it's being made into a movie that's coming out so so soon!

I highly recommend this book, and I'm sure I'll do the same for the movie!  It was seriously so amazing!

What books have you read lately that you just love?  Do you like to read the book or see the movie first?

If you read/have already read this book, what did you think of it??  I want to know!

I'm about 100 pages in right now and I really like it! I was also fortunate enough to meet Anne Hathaway this summer, so I'm really looking forward to the movie, but I have to finish the book first!
