perfect timing - book club friday

I have been a reading machine this past week&a half!  I also did something I never do and started one book while I was in the middle of another -- but it was kind of a necessity.  See, my mom's friend lent me a book she had read, but it was from the library, so I had to make sure I finished it in time to return it for her!

{Just so you know, I read a lot of chick lit.  I wouldn't say it's the only thing I read, but those kinds of books are just fun, enjoyable, light hearted, easy reads!}

That said, this makes today the PERFECT TIME to link up with Heather at Blonde...Undercover Blonde for Book Club Friday!

First up -- Confetti Confidential by Holly McQueen!

What it's about {as per amazon}:
Isabel Bookbinder dreams of pearly white weddings, happy brides, handsome grooms. And champagne towers that don't topple over. She dreams of the perfect wedding. But not for herself... for her clients.

It's all about bride management as far as Isabel's concerned. Even when she misplaces a couple of brides and loses her job working for wedding guru Pippa Everitt, Isabel isn't disheartened. She throws herself straight into launching Isabel Bookbinder, Individual Weddings, and with a pop starlet and a millionaire as her first clients, business is looking rosy.

Unfortunately for Isabel, nothing ever goes quite according to plan...

What I thought:  This book is classic chick lit!  We have the main character, Isabel, who is good intentioned, yet finds herself in the middle quite a few messes and misunderstandings.  It's very Confessions of a Shopaholic-meets-Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner.  However, it was a cute story and you definitely find yourself rooting for Isabel throughout.  I recommed it if you're looking for a cute, fun end-of-summer/early fall/any vacation time read!

However(!) I didn't know this when I read it, but this is actually the third book in a series, which I probably would have but now won't read, because I know how it ends!  haha OOPS!  The first two are called The Glamourous (Double) Life of Isabel Bookbinder and The Fabulously Fashionable Life of Isabel Bookbinder.  I would read those first, if I were you!

Moving on -- Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin!

Preview

Let me start out by saying that I love Emily Giffin books!  I've read all 5 and really enjoy them -- especially Something Borrowed and Something Blue!

What it's about {as per amazon}:
Tessa Russo is a stay-at-home mother of two young children and the wife of a renowned pediatric surgeon. Valerie Anderson is an attorney and single mother to six-year-old Charlie—a boy who has never known his father. Although both women live in the same Boston suburb, they are strangers to one another and have little in common, aside from a fierce love for their children. But one night, a tragic accident causes their lives to converge in ways no one could have imagined.
This is the moving, luminous story of good people caught in untenable circumstances. Each being tested in ways they never thought possible. Each questioning everything they once believed. And each ultimately discovering what truly matters most.

What I thought
This book was a little heavier than some of the others, and being single and having no children, covered topics & pressures that I don't deal with in my everyday life.  However, the emotion behind these characters was so true to life and I could not pull myself away from the book, because I needed to know what was going to happen.  It, unlike a lot of books I read, was not that predictable and once I got into it, I was hooked!  I also love that she brings in characters from previous books in a great, not-at-all cheesy and totally unexpected way!  All in all, I highly recommend this, and all of her books!

I hope you're having a fab Friday!  What are your plans for the weekend?  Fun stuff I hope!

Also, if you're on the East Coast, be safe with this storm coming through!  Make sure you've got a flashlight/candles, water and food, just in case!  Hopefully it won't be bad though!
